About Our Company

All people are created equal, only the finest become members of

Engine & Hose Company No. 4.

Forward

In the early days of 1900, a group of citizens who owned property and resided in an area of the Town of Oyster Bay, south of the unincorporated village of Glen Cove, and outside of the fire district of Glen Cove, recognized the need for fire protection. These people chiefly resided in an area known as Thompson Park decided to establish an organization to cover this need.

At a meeting held on June 6, 1914, at the home of Edward Donaldson of Thompson Park, an organization was formed called “The Mutual Protective Association of South Glen Cove”.

A letter from the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Glen Cove Fire Department was received stating that our request to join the GCFD was granted with the following stipulation; the Association would be under the direct charge of the Glen Cove Fire Department and will be known as “Auxiliary Company #4”.

In celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Engine and Hose Company No. 4, this website aims to keep an accurate record of the development of our proud company to the present time.

To develop this accurate history, we had to revisit the original minutes and fast forwarded through the 100 years of minutes to glean as much history as possible. We called upon our current & past members, families, and citizens of Glen Cove to gather photos, items, and interviews—we would like to thank everyone who contributed to this momentous undertaking.

Excellence in leadership & firefighting.

Engine & Hose Company No. 4 believes that it takes 30 years to become a 30-year member, not 30 minutes. Actions speak louder than words; Firefighters are judged by what they do, not by what they say. You cannot put a fire out with words.
